Judy Patterson Memorial Scholarship Fund of KMCB, Inc
It is with pride that we have renamed the scholarship in memory of Judy Patterson, KMCB’s former highly respected coordinator who dreamed of establishing a scholarship fund to help deserving students in their quest to have a career in environmental science.
The monies for this scholarship fund are administered separately by Keep Monroe County Beautiful, Inc. Money used for this fund is derived from donations designated by individuals or companies for this fund and from money assigned by the KMCB board from our fund raising activities.
The fund is open to seniors within Monroe County who have an interest in the environmental sciences and who have committed to pursue a career in this field. Any senior, including those in accredited private schools, who have been involved in environmental activities during their high school term may apply by filling out and submitting the necessary forms before the 4th Thursday of April (each year) deadline.
In 2010 the first $500.00 scholarship was awarded to a Sequoyah High School senior. Our feedback is that the recipient is doing well in her studies at UT in Knoxville.
The Judy Patterson Scholarship recipient for 2011 is Caleb Lynn from Tellico Plains High School. The $500 scholarship was presented to Caleb during the class night activities. Caleb is the son of Danny and Dianna Lynn of Tellico. He is an Eagle scout, active in beautification projects, participates in clean-up projects, a former member of TSAP, and a community minded young man. Caleb will start school at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville on August 25th and major in Environmental Engineering.
We look forward to continuing this award in the years following as it is our youth who will have to carry the torch forward.
The contact for applications and donations is Nadine Mazienis at 423-442-3535.
